Deepa Unnikrishnan, also known as Dee MC, is a 30-year-old rapper, and singer-songwriter from Mumbai who also served as the editor-in-chief at DesiHipHop.com. She started in hip-hop through dance and began writing her own raps in 2012. Her music reflects her personal journey and social awareness. Dee MC is a prominent figure in Indian hip hop, having worked with various brands and appeared in film and television. She has represented India internationally in countries such as the UK, Canada, Belgium and America. In April 2024 she was invited to the USA, along with artists from 22 different countries, on a state department-funded project known as the International Visitor Leadership Program - exploring the concept of cultural diplomacy through Hip Hop. Dee has appeared in the Bollywood film Gully Boy and is one of the judges on MTV Hustle. Her debut album 'Dee=MC²' was released on October 30th, 2019 and since then the artist has co-directed and directed several of her own music videos.
