Dr. S. Sowmya is one of the leading voices in Carnatic music, known for her deeply classical style, expansive repertoire, and work in preserving Tamil Nadu’s rich musical traditions. A recipient of the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi and Isai Perarignar titles, she is also an accomplished Saraswati Veena exponent and researcher whose work explores the intersection of music and science, including the tonal stability of the mridangam. Currently the Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music & Fine Arts University, Dr. Sowmya continues to shape the future of Indian classical music through performance, research, and education.
