Mr. Tarun Katial, with an experience of over 20 years in the industry has been instrumental in revolutionizing the media and entertainment landscape in India. He is credited for creating iconic and clutter breaking content across television and radio.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (RBNL), a diversified media house, he has laid the foundation for 92.7 BIG FM, India’s largest radio network with 45 stations. He has also anchored the company’s foray into the television broadcast sector with BIG Magic, a light-hearted family entertainment channel and BIG Ganga, the leading regional general entertainment channel of Bihar & Jharkhand.
In his distinguished career, he has successfully held leadership positions at conglomerates such as Star TV and Sony Entertainment Television. His ability to grasp what captivates the Indian consumer stems from his early years in the advertising industry, where he worked with renowned agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Enterprise Nexus and Ogilvy & Mather.
Having spent over two decades in the Indian media industry, Mr. Katial has successfully produced and marketed shows across genres including reality, soaps and comedy on television to retro programming on radio. Some of the popular shows that he spearheaded include Kaun Banega Crorepati, Indian Idol, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Crime Patrol, Fame Gurukul, Khulja Sim Sim and more recently Akbar Birbal, Suhana Safar with Annu Kapoor and Nayak with Sanjeev Srivastava.
Mr. Katial is a firm believer towards creating social impact and has conceptualized marquee properties such as BIG Green Ganesha an award winning and much celebrated initiative which creates awareness about the importance of ecological practices during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi with the vision for a better eco-friendly future.
He has been recognized for his contribution across the media fraternity. He was part of the team that won the first Media Gold at Cannes. His other eminent achievements include being voted NewsCorp Achiever for Asia, featuring in the ‘India Today 30 on 30’ and Economic Times Young Leaders list and CNBC Young Turks, in addition to winning the first TV Programming Award at Indian Telly Awards.
Mr. Katial is a regular speaker at reputed industry forums. He has been a Jury chair for the Ad club Abby and DMAI, committee member with FICCI and CII, Board of Governor at MICA and Vice President at Association of Radio Operators for India (AROI). He also regularly contributes op-ed pieces on the outlook and future of media in India.
