Nandini Shankar is one of the most promising & upcoming faces in the world of Indian violin. Known for her ability to make the violin sing, she inherits the legacy of the Gayaki Ang (singing style of the violin) from her gurus, the illustrious grandmother Padmabhushan Dr. N. Rajam and the highly accomplished visionary Dr. Sangeeta Shankar. Nandini began her training in violin at the age of 3, and gave her first ever public performance as a young 8-year old. Her first solo performance was at the age of 13, and ever since then, she has been an avid performer - frequenting Indian Classical Music Festivals in India & abroad. Her progress has been enormously astonishing and she has reached a high level of proficiency on the violin.
She has toured over 15 countries for concerts, and also performed in the prestigious Carnegie Hall of New York. She is a part of 2 bands - 'Sakhi', an initiative by the singing queen of Indian Classical Music, Kaushiki Chakraborty, and 'inStrings' - an Indian fusion band formed by Dr. Sangeeta Shankar. Currently she also teaches Indian Music & Composition at Whistling Woods International, a premier film institute. Academically, she is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Masters in Music from SNDT University.
